Military 7 Ton - Here is a review of the Trumpeter Mk23 truck with armor protection. This is the truck that the Navy and Army use today, and it is a 7-ton truck manufactured by Oshkosh (Bugosh). I saw a picture of this bad boy online and had to make it. While the set is a bit rare, I found one at LHS and grabbed it right away. When opening the box I was impressed with the amount of pieces, packaging and details.
I have built trucks made by Trumpeter and/or Hobbybus many times before. They have a great team working on the truck and I found them to be very detailed and fun to build. Not only is there no exception, it is IMHO the best I have ever done.

This kit lacks an engine, and while it has a full cabin and cabin interior, it is very basic (and I must say nothing). Despite these factors, the number of pieces for this set reaches 700! This translates to incredibly detailed chassis and suspension, not to mention the CROWs exterior and interior.

I started my construction with suspension / diff units; The three are similar but the last one is different. The details and fit are remarkable. A stairwell with separate rails and crossbars is another, and a more appropriate one. Then it is the fuel tank (with PE steps) and other tanks and accessories in the attachment. The construction will last you for hours, and the fit of the parts including PE is special.
Next is the cab floor and interior, and the rear bed and armor room. The interior is nice and the dash decal looks good when washed. My only concern is the inappropriate and poor fit of the hood, which I reinforced under the fenders so that it does not fall. On the other hand, the back and navy are special, showing well with the upper face.
The cloth head was not good, and I spent time washing and brushing to try to improve it. If someone comes up with a plastic bag for this dress, I will buy it and replace the thick top dress. The top is removable and the hinges on the back work as well, providing some display flexibility.
The last part of the build is the CROWs unit, which fits together nicely and has top and bottom details including the rotation controls and motors. The glass is two layers thick and fit.

The truck appears to have left Oshkosh in sand, and APK in green, making the "Frankentruck" look cool. This difference is what made me buy the kit, and with a little planning it's very easy to replicate in the model. I used AK Original paint for sand and green, and Hataka lacquer for seafoam green inside the cab. The box showed a dirty truck, so I felt compelled to take a shower, mostly in an oil paint wash but also using some AK products. I used the paint on the cut rubber, gave them a heavy coat and removed the excess with cotton swabs. . Finally I threw in a few pieces of ValueGear Modern Stowage to liven up the rear.
I have to say this dress is a monster! It was almost as long as Abram and quite tall. This will take up a lot of room in your display case. But it's a great build, and moves quickly with part numbers and details. I highly recommend this set to fans of modern military trucks. 6x6, Cat -, 6 cylinders, Turbo, diesel engine, automatic transmission, ABS, central tire inflation system, 16.00R20 tires, rear window, tail gear, air conditioner, heater

Oh Good There Are About To Be A Lot More Military Surplus Trucks For Sale
Initially there were four, later, sev, MTVR variants, nine (plus sub-types) while delivery and development continued. A dedicated trailer and MTVRs prototype / development has been produced.
The MTVR has its design origins in two US military programs, the 5-Ton Tactical Truck Replacement (5TTR) for the US Army and the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) for the US Navy. The goal of these programs is to improve and extend the service life of approximately 3,400 US Army 5-ton trucks and 8,100 US Army M809 and M939 series 5-ton trucks. Prototype and development contracts for both projects were awarded in 1996. The 5TTR project was later discontinued, and the MTVR project evolved from renewal to a need for new construction.
Oshkosh was awarded a multi-year MTVR production contract in February 1999. The first vehicle was scheduled for delivery in late 1999, and the Delivery under the initial contract ended in August 2005. The initial award includes up to 8,168 MTVRs (options for 2,502) in four variants (MK23, MK25, MK27, MK28) to be ordered during the five-year program; 6931 MTVRs, 6393 Marines and 538 Marines (Seabees). The first MTVRs were introduced in July 2001. Three more variants followed, the MK29, MK30 and MK36.
Under a separate contract, Oshkosh began production of another version of the MTVR, the MK37, in July 2004. Based on the MK27 and equipped with a Hib Material Handling Crane with a maximum capacity of 10,000 lb at 10.5 ft, the MK37 is the return vehicle for the United States Navy's heavy artillery system (HIMARS). The accompanying trailer is MK38.
